Graduates of our international school in Singapore achieve a US-accredited High School Diploma by earning a minimum of 24 credits across various subject areas, including English, elective units, Science, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Individuals and Societies, Physical and Health Education, and Arts. Furthermore, they must complete eight semesters beyond grade 8, meet requirements for Theory of Knowledge or Global Perspectives, and attain objectives for Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS).

Our approach combines the rigor of American standards, ensuring vertically aligned learning across disciplines, with the versatility of the IB Program’s frameworks. All °µÍø½ûÇø students have the opportunity to graduate with a U.S. accredited High School Diploma upon earning a minimum of 24 credits across various subject areas:

  • 4 credits in English
  • 4 credits in elective units
  • 3 credits each in Science, Mathematics, Foreign Language, and Individuals and Societies.
  • 2 credits each in Physical and Health Education, and Arts
  • Eight semesters [or the equivalent] of academic work beyond grade 8
  • Completion of 2 semesters of Theory of Knowledge or Global Perspectives
  • Completion of all objectives for Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS)

Middle Years Programme (Grades 6 - 10)

At °µÍø½ûÇø, all students in Grades 9 and 10 are part of the , an integral component of our IB Continuum at SAIS. Grade 10 students have the opportunity to enhance their high school diploma by opting for either the MYP Certificate or MYP Courses.

Throughout the program, our students actively engage in diverse contexts and learning approaches, which serve as valuable tools for academic success. Grade 10 students culminate their MYP experience by completing the Personal Project, a significant milestone within the MYP Core, and participating in Service as Action components. Successful completion results in the prestigious IB MYP Personal Project Certificate.

At Stamford, Grade 10 students can also choose the flexible MYP pathway (MYP Flex) and add one (1) AP course to their schedule. This empowers students to continue their MYP journey while exploring flexible pathway options as they progress into Grades 11 and 12.

Advanced Placement Program (Grades 10 - 12)

°µÍø½ûÇø offers an exceptional Advanced Placement (AP) program designed for international high school students. These one-year college-level courses provide a unique opportunity for students to experience the challenges of college-level studies while benefiting from the support of a high school environment. By enrolling in AP courses, students demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence and readiness for college and beyond.

Our school proudly offers over 20 AP courses in grades 10, 11, or 12. At the end of each course in early May, students take AP exams to gauge their mastery of college-level work. Scoring 3 or higher on an AP exam often translates to college credit and advanced course placement in U.S. colleges. For those considering universities with exam-based entrance systems like the UK, Netherlands, or Australia, AP exams are recognized as equivalent to A-Levels.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (Grades 11 - 12)

For students in grades 11 and 12, °µÍø½ûÇø offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP). This comprehensive two-year program allows international high school students to explore three Higher Level and three Standard Level courses. Additionally, students engage in deep reflection through the Theory of Knowledge, complete an independent Extended Essay, and participate in projects involving Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) to enhance their learning experience.

With a diverse selection of over 40 courses, the IB DP empowers students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in university and beyond. This globally recognized program is respected by thousands of universities worldwide.

High School students pursuing the full IB Diploma commit to two years of coursework. For those not pursuing the full Diploma, flexible options allow them to choose one or two years of courses and make changes as needed at the end of the first year.

BTEC (Grades 11 - 12)

°µÍø½ûÇø offers the Business & Technical Education Council (BTEC) International Level 3 program, a UK-based vocational education program designed for students in grades 11 and 12. This program equips students with valuable practical skills and in-depth theoretical knowledge in their chosen fields, paving the way for success in higher education, the workforce, or life beyond school.

BTECs provide a specialized pathway for students interested in specific industries, particularly those considering technical, design, art universities, or immediate entry into the workforce. This globally recognized program is respected by numerous universities worldwide.

BTEC courses emphasize skill-based learning and are structured around themed units. Unlike traditional end-of-course testing, BTECs incorporate assessments based on real-life scenarios throughout the program.

Students pursuing the full BTEC commit to two years of coursework, while those opting for partial BTECs have flexibility, with options for one or two-year courses and the opportunity to switch courses at the end of the first year.

°µÍø½ûÇø offers BTEC courses in Music Performance, Art & Design, and Performing Arts (Acting).

°µÍø½ûÇø Courses (Grades 11 - 12)

°µÍø½ûÇø offers courses akin to what U.S. high schools typically refer to as “On-Level” or “College Prep” courses. Our curriculum undergoes internal evaluations, ensuring students meet the Common Core or AERO standards for each subject. Students receive a Stamford grade from 1-7, which is reflected on their report card and transcript. However, please note that as these courses are not externally assessed, they do not grant U.S. university credits or serve as qualifications for universities beyond North America. These one-year courses are primarily intended for students to fulfill the credit requirements for the °µÍø½ûÇø U.S. High School Diploma.

Regardless of the pathway a student chooses, completing the high school program earns them a US-accredited High School Diploma. They will also earn any other certifications associated with their chosen pathways. Some of these include: IBDP, BTEC, AP courses and IB courses.

To graduate with a US-accredited High School Diploma from °µÍø½ûÇø, students need to earn a minimum of 24 credits across various subject areas. Aside from that basic requirement, they must also complete a Creativity, Activity, and Service project and reflect on the importance of the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), a key concept that underpins the learning approach at °µÍø½ûÇø.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a component of the larger International Baccalaureate education framework that is offered to Grades 9 and 10 students as part of the IB Continuum at °µÍø½ûÇø. In Grade 10, students have the option to register for the MYP Certificate or MYP Courses to help their high school diploma stand out with internationally recognized IB credentials.

The IBDP is a two-year program for Grade 11 and 12 students. The IBDP is renowned worldwide for its academic rigor and for equipping students with valuable soft skills that will be of great use in college and beyond. Many universities will also credit courses taken under the IBDP or provide other special considerations. Students that choose this path must take three Higher Level and three Standard Level courses, engage in Theory of Knowledge reflection, complete a 4,000-word Extended Essay, and undertake a Creativity, Activity, and Service project.

The AP Program at °µÍø½ûÇø offers 20 college-level courses to high school students. Taking AP courses prepares students for the academic rigor of higher education while still in a supportive high school environment. Successful completion of AP courses and exams can earn students college credits or advanced placement in university courses, saving them time and reducing the cost of college education. The program also enhances college applications and may increase the odds of acceptance at prestigious colleges and universities.

The BTEC program is a vocational program for Grades 11 and 12, offering practical skills and theoretical knowledge in specific fields. BTEC courses are designed around practical, skills-based learning and are assessed through real-life scenarios. The BTEC program offered by Stamford is particularly valuable for students interested in the arts. BTEC diplomas are equivalent to A Levels in the UK.

°µÍø½ûÇø Courses are designed to help students prepare for the rigorous academic environments found in universities. Unlike AP, IB DP, and BTEC programs, these courses aren’t externally assessed and don’t provide college credits. Evaluations for °µÍø½ûÇø Courses are internal and completion earns students a US-accredited high school diploma.

Regardless of the path they choose, all °µÍø½ûÇø high school students have access to the school¡¯s Academic and College Counseling team. The team¡¯s goal is to reduce the anxiety that many students feel about higher education and entering the workforce by offering information and support. As with SAIS¡¯s other initiatives, college counseling is done with the intent of helping students learn more about themselves to become self-actualized individuals.

Students with special emotional or developmental needs can also get in touch with SAIS¡¯s Student Support Department. The department uses a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RTI) approach to identify issues and offer customized interventions, with the end goal of further developing the affected student¡¯s confidence and independence.
